Interested in saving a life? Foster a Pit Bull!

Chicagoland Bully Breed Rescue relies on foster homes to continue our mission. Without foster homes, we could not rescue needy dogs. Fostering is one of the most valuable and rewarding ways to help CBBR.

Benefits of foster homes:
1)     Our pit bulls become and stay adoptable. Pit bulls need lots of socializing, training, exercise, and love to stay emotionally stable.
2)    The dogs receive more one-on-one care and attention and are more likely to adjust to their forever homes with ease.
3)    We get an on-going behavior assessment which allows us to address any behavior issues early on so that the problem can be addressed in training before a behavior escalates to the point of being irremediable.
4)    Dogs are more likely to STAY in their new homes after being fostered in a dedicated, active home that is committed to socialization, training, exercise, and boundaries.
5)    Dogs are more likely to become breed ambassadors while living in a home environment.
6)    Dogs learn home manners that adopters are looking for in their new family member!
We strive for our dogs to be adopted once and stay in their forever homes – FOREVER! While some life changes happen, the more adoptable our dogs are and the easier they are for new owners to handle, the more likely the adoption will work out.    All CBBR foster dogs must go through training classes and work towards their Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certificate.

Foster Care Guidelines:
1)     You must be at least 21 years old.
2)    You must make time to take your foster pit bull to routine healthcare exams, vaccinations, spay/neuter surgeries, or any other emergency that may come up.
3)    You must be able to attend training classes at least once a week and commit to making your foster the BEST he/she can be.
4)    You must be able to bring your dog to events or make arrangements to be available for another volunteer to help.
5)    You must be your foster dog’s advocate! Help spread the word about how great he/she is and why people should adopt.
6)    You must be an active participant in your foster dog’s adoption.
7)    You must be able to make a commitment to spend time socializing your foster pit bull in as many situations as possible. He will need to be around children, adults, crowds, and – as appropriate – other dogs as much as possible.
8)    You must be able to provide a safe space for your foster pit bull. All foster dogs must be crated trained. Your foster dog must always be separated from other resident animals and children when you are not available to supervise the interactions.

CBBR will provide (you will receive a foster handbook):
1)     Crate, leash and collar
2)    Food – we receive donated food of most brands. If you prefer to feed your foster dog food that we do not get donated, the cost will be your responsibility.
3)    All medical care related to the health of the dog. Accidents that are the result of your negligence will be your responsibility.
4)    On occasion, toys, treats, blankets, beds, etc. when donated.
